Abstract:

Nowadays, auxiliaries are playing a very important role in improving textile dyeing and printing conditions. In the present study, cotton/polyester fabric was padded with beta-cyclodetrin (b-CD) and after printing with disperse-reactive dyes, samples were treated with TiO2 nanoparticle to improve their self-cleaning properties. The effect of b-CD on properties of printed fabric and scanning electron microscope surface image, their self-cleaning and antimicrobial properties were studied. According to the results, increasing concentration of b-CD could reduce color strength (K/S) of the samples and their water absorption time whilst water spreading area and value of the retained water were increased. b-CD showed a very limited effect on improving antimicrobial activity of goods.

Abstract:

This paper studied a potential hazard of titanium DIOXIDE nanomaterials in the primary sreening methods on the sample of bull sperm. A method for stabilizing metal nanopowders and their derivatives for biomedical studies is proposed. It was found that the complex of titanium DIOXIDE doped with silver (Ag-TiO2) and nanopowder of titanium DIOXIDE (TiO2) at concentrations of 3 mg/ml initiate pathological changes in the bull sperm: the release of phospholipids as a result of the destruction of membranes and morphological abnormalities (abnormalities of the head, middle part, and tail, as well as the absence of acrosome, etc). The pathological effect of Ag-TiO2 nanocomposite was more pronounced. Doping with silver can increase the toxicity of nanotitanium DIOXIDE, which requires further in-depth experimental studies using different concentrations by in vivo and in vitro methods.

Abstract:

Polystyrene nanocomposites were prepared with varying amounts of nanotitanium DIOXIDE and nanosilver by melt mixing process at 190° C. The nanocomposites structure was characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The mechanical properties were obtained with tensile test. The influence of nanoparticles on the thermal properties of polystyrene matrix was examined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results of the SEM showed that both nanoparticles were present in nanocomposite, and the distribution of nanoparticles in the polymer was relatively good, despite the fact that in some places aggregation (with maximum size of 55 nm) were observed. The EDS spectrum showed that the nanocomposite was non-impure and contained three elements of carbon, titanium and silver, and the amount of nanotitanium was about 10 times that of silver. The augment of nanoparticles leading to decrease Young’ s modules and stress at break point slightly. But, a point of view yield at break had not seen significantly different (P˃ 0. 05). The investigating of the thermal properties of the samplesshowed they did not differ significantly from the point of view of glass temperature and thermal stability of the polystyrene and nanocomposites.

Objective(s): Quince seed mucilage (QSM) serves as a new source of hydrocolloid which extracted from outer pericarp of Cydonia oblonga seeds upon wetting. It has been traditionally used for the treatment of diseases such as pharyngeal disorder, common cold, colic ulcer, and diarrhea. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physico-mechanical and antimicrobial properties of quince seed mucilage supplemented with titanium DIOXIDE (TiO2) and Silicon DIOXIDE (SiO2) nanoparticles. Methods: The antimicrobial property of designated QSM against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella typhimurium, and Escherichia coli O157: H7 was determined using agar disk diffusion and broth micro-dilution assays. Thickness, tensile strength (TS), puncture force (PF), puncture deformation (PD), swelling index (SI), and color of active QSMs were evaluated using analytical instruments. Results: The films containing TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles exhibited good antimicrobial effects against S. aureus, B. subtilis, B. cereus, L. monocytogenes, S. typhimurium, and E. coli O157: H7 ranged 0. 82-6. 88 mm and-2. 78--0. 28 log differences in population (DP) regarding agar disk diffusion and broth microdilution assays, respectively. The presented values, including TS, PF, and PD of QSM films, were in the ranges of 22. 45-35. 81 MPa, 10. 42-15. 49 N, and 15. 53-18. 45 mm, respectively. Conclusions: Application of TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles greatly improved the antimicrobial and physico-mechanical properties of the prepared films.

Abstract:

In order to investigate the effect of the percentage of nanoparticles, storage time and storage temperature on the storage stability of bitumen modified by nanoparticles, storage tests, softening point tests and dynamic shear rheometer 1 (DSR) tests were used to evaluate the characteristics of two types of bitumen modified with nanotitanium DIOXIDE (TiO2). Became The results showed that the softening point, fracture temperature, dynamic shear viscosity and |𝐺∗|/sin(𝛿) of bitumen’s increase with the percentage of nanoparticles. The storage stability of bitumens decreased with the percentage of nanoparticles. The effect of storage time on the storage stability of bitumen’s was significant when the storage time was more than 48 hours. In addition, the storage stability of bitumen’s at low temperatures was better than at high temperatures. The reduction of nanoparticle size due to nanoparticle aggregation could not effectively increase the storage stability of nanoparticle-modified bitumen.

Abstract:

The use of heat-reflective glass has recently gained attention for its potential to reduce the electrical energy consumption required to cool buildings and mitigate electricity shortages. In this research, theoretical and experimental investigations of multi-layered coatings on glass, which is called spectrally selective glass, have been conducted. The aim was to prevent the entry of infrared thermal radiation and control radiation in the visible range. Using the theoretical method of multilayer thin film structures, the structure of three layers of zirconium DIOXIDE/gold/zirconium DIOXIDE has been simulated on glass and then made by the electron beam method. The simulations showed that this three-layer structure with a thickness of about 160 nm for ZrO2 and a gold coating thickness of about 20 nm is a proper choice. The sample made in the laboratory for this structure with a thickness of 160/20/160 nm matches well with the spectrum of the simulated samples and there is a slight deviation due to experimental error sources. The simulated and fabricated sample has more than 50% transmittance in the visible spectral range from 500 to 700 nm. There is a transmittance peak of more than 70% in the center of the visible range. The transmittance is less than 20% in the near-infrared spectrum range for the wavelength of 750 nm to 1100 nm. Therefore, this structure is very suitable for use as a reflector of infrared thermal radiation. This structure is a spectrally selective glass that can be used as a smart glass for radiant cooling purposes.

Abstract:

Background: Living in polluted areas could be considered a risk factor for preterm labor and low birth weight. Few studies examined the association between air pollution and abortion. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between ambient air pollutant and rate of spontaneous abortion. Methods: This study was a case-control research conducted on 148 cases of spontaneous abortion (case group) and 148 pregnant women (control group). Samples were collected randomly from 10 hospitals in Tehran in 2011. The correlation between spontaneous abortion and air pollution was investigated by the SPSS software using independent sample t-test, multiple and linear regression models and also Arc View geospatial information system (GIS) software using circular buffer. Results: The mean of environmental sulfur DIOXIDE and nitrogen DIOXIDE concentration in case group (35.91±20.46, 49.62±19.87) was significantly higher than that of the control group (29.1±11.11, 45.67±13.2) (p=0.000, p=0.045). Also it was determined that the rate of abortion was higher in those living within 100 meters of the highways. Conclusion: According to the findings of this study it seems that air pollution and living near crowded areas threaten the health of pregnant women and fetus. Thus, it is suggested to present necessary training about the hazardous effects of air pollution on pregnancy of women residing in crowded areas of city and also to adopt ways to reduce these pollutions.
